Approved at the 6th Library Affairs Meeting of the 111 Academic Year on March 8, 2023

1. The National Yunlin University of Science and Technology Library (hereinafter referred to as the "Library") has established these guidelines for the reader's book recommendation service to enrich the library's collection and meet the demand for book and journal resources by the university's readers.

2. All faculty, staff, and students of the university may recommend materials needed for teaching, research, counseling, or service purposes.

3. For the purpose of these guidelines, recommended materials are defined as books and journals. Books refer to those with more than 50 pages and excluding materials such as tests, questionnaires, or booklets. Journals are limited to those with long-term subscriptions (at least one year), and individual issues of journals should not be recommended.

4. Before recommending materials, readers should first use the Library's catalog system to confirm that the requested materials are not already in the collection. Recommendations should then be submitted via the "Online Book Recommendation" system, and the application form must include complete and accurate bibliographic information, including title, author, publisher, publication year, ISBN, etc.

5. If a recommended material is already in the collection, no additional copies will be purchased as a general rule. If a book has five or more reservations, the Library may prioritize it for popular reservation lending. If a book has ten or more reservations, the Library may consider purchasing an additional copy.

6. Principles for Reader's Book Recommendations:

(1) Each recommender is limited to recommending up to five materials per month (including approved, not approved, recommended duplicates, and canceled recommendations). Among these, the maximum number of foreign books that are available for immediate purchase within Taiwan is two per person per month. For general books of the same type, the limit is also two per person per month. The unit price for each book is limited to NT$1,000 for Chinese books and NT$2,000 for foreign books.

(2) The Library will not purchase the following materials:

  1. Books that violate copyright laws.

       2. Books that contain content involving pornography, violence, or that violate public morals.

(3) Due to limited funds for book recommendations, leisure reading (including comics, light novels, fanfiction), skill-building, health and wellness, religion, investment and finance, travel, and language proficiency test books, for which similar books are already abundantly available in the Library, will generally be considered for purchase only at the end of each semester based on a consolidated recommendation list. Please be prudent when making recommendations.

(4) The open application period for book recommendations is from the start of the spring semester (February) to November 15 each year. No recommendations will be accepted during winter and summer breaks.

7. The purchase of recommended materials will be determined based on the Library's collection development policy, considering the nature, content, and funding situation of the materials.

8. Recommended materials that belong to specialized academic fields will be reviewed by the respective department's library committee to determine if the materials should be purchased using the department's library budget.

9. In the case of controversial materials, the recommendations may be submitted to the "Reader's Book Recommendation Review Committee" for discussion. The review committee will consist of personnel responsible for procurement and cataloging in the Technical Services Division and personnel responsible for collection management in the Reader Services Division. The head of the Technical Services Division will serve as the convener. If the controversial book or journal requires further review, it may be submitted to the Library Affairs Meeting for discussion.

10. These guidelines shall be implemented after being approved by the Library Affairs Meeting. Any revisions shall follow the same process.
